Pertamina geothermal secures power supply for Eid surge

PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk said it is maintaining reliable operations across its geothermal plants to support Indonesia’s power grid during the Eid al-Fitr holiday, when electricity demand and travel typically increase.

President Director Ahmad Yani said in a statement Thursday the company aims to ensure stable electricity supply as public mobility rises during the annual Islamic celebration.

He said geothermal energy remains a strategic priority for delivering clean and reliable power, helping households celebrate the holiday comfortably and safely.

PGE operates 15 geothermal working areas with a combined installed capacity of 727 megawatts, accounting for about 70 percent of Indonesia’s total geothermal capacity.

The portfolio positions the company as a key contributor to the country’s renewable energy supply and a backbone of its low-carbon power generation strategy.

Among its assets, the Kamojang geothermal plant in West Java supplies electricity to more than 260,000 households each day.

The Lahendong plant provides over 30 percent of electricity demand in North Sulawesi and Gorontalo, while the Ulubelu facility meets around 20 percent of Lampung’s power needs.

PGE reported an availability factor of 98.93 percent and a low outage rate of 0.41 percent, reflecting stable operations across its geothermal fleet.

Operations Director Andi Joko Nugroho said geothermal power offers consistent output because it is not affected by weather variability.

He said these characteristics make geothermal energy a strategic solution for maintaining grid stability without reliance on fossil fuels.

The approach supports Indonesia’s transition toward a low-carbon economy and aligns with environmental, social and governance standards increasingly adopted by energy companies.

The company’s efforts also align with government plans to expand the share of renewable energy in the national energy mix over the coming decade.

Authorities are targeting a significant increase in renewable capacity between 2025 and 2034 to reduce emissions and strengthen energy security.

PGE said its geothermal operations are expected to deliver broader economic, social and environmental benefits across Indonesia.
