Govt to build integrated poultry farms to support MBG program
The government announced a plan to build integrated poultry farms to support the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program and enhance national food security and self-sufficiency.
This was conveyed by Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman after his meeting with the Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, who also serves as the CEO of sovereign wealth fund Danantara
"We will build integrated broiler and layer farms with a budget of Rp20 trillion (US$1.2 billion) across the country," Sulaiman said, adding that the plan is part of the national strategy to support the MBG program to improve the children's nutrition.
The establishment of these farms will be carried out comprehensively in regions experiencing a shortage in chicken meat and egg supplies, he said.
He explained that this major investment is the result of a strategic collaboration between his office and Danantara.
“Funding from Danantara will be distributed across Indonesia in regions facing shortages of chicken meat and eggs,” the minister added.
Sulaiman said that all planning stages and pre-feasibility studies would be completed promptly to allow the project to commence in January 2026.
The establishment of this livestock farm will be a key foundation for maintaining a sustainable supply of animal protein for Indonesians in the future, he added.
With an integrated livestock system, chicken and egg production is expected to increase significantly, thereby reducing potential shortages and maintaining market price stability.
Sulaiman said he believes that this effort can help Indonesia achieve sustainable livestock-based food self-sufficiency.
He expressed hope the Rp20 trillion in funding from Danantara would be available by January 2026, allowing the integrated poultry farm project to start on time and strengthen food security.
