Lyon vs. Man United score: Europa League result, stats as Onana struggles allow OL to finish level

Andre Onana will wish he could take back his pre-match comments, as the Man United goalkeeper produced two glaring errors en route to a 2-2 draw in the first leg of their Europa League quarterfinal matchup with Lyon.

The two sides were equal to one another throughout the match, trading spells of good attacking movement, but ultimately it will be Onana in the spotlight at the end. Following the goalkeeper's claim before the match that United were "way better" than Lyon, former Red Devil midfielder Nemanja Matic fired back viciously, saying Onana was "one of the worst goalkeepers in United history."

Harsh or not, Matic's words proved prophetic as the United star had a troublesome performance. First he failed to react in time as Thiago Almada's free-kick evaded the crowd and deposited in the back of the net for the opener just before the half-hour mark, with Onana expecting someone to get a touch.

Lenny Yoro's first goal for Man United brought the Red Devils level on the stroke of halftime, and United improved greatly after the break, especially once Joshua Zirkzee entered in place of the struggling Rasmus Hojlund. Zirkzee's entry was profitable as he found the net with a smart header just before the 90 minutes was up, seemingly giving United a confidence-building victory.

Yet Onana's second and more glaring mistake was still to come, as he spilled a Georges Mikautadze shot right at the death, allowing Rayan Cherki to pounce and score the equaliser with literally the last kick of the match.
