Arne Slot set to miss Liverpool Premier League title party after Leicester admission
Arne Slot is set to miss Liverpool's Premier League celebrations if they secure the title today.
That's because the Dutchman is planning to fly back to the Netherlands for the Bank Holiday, irrespective of whether Liverpool are crowned Premier League champions on Sunday. The Reds are on the cusp of winning the title with five matches to go if Arsenal stumble at Ipswich and they triumph over relegation-threatened Leicester City.
Despite a landmark championship potentially being won today, Slot insisted he hasn't thought about how he'll celebrate such a milestone as he revealed his plans to spend a couple of days back home with his family.
When asked about his plans to celebrate a Premier League title in his debut season at Anfield, Slot admitted: "At this moment in time, nothing at all. I'm only thinking about trying to win a game of football against Leicester - and then we have two days off.
"So I will go back to Holland on Monday. That's what my life is. First, let's win on Sunday and see how things will work out. Right now, the plan is to go to Holland on Monday and Tuesday
Liverpool's wait to get their hands on the title also hinges on Arsenal's results. If Mikel Arteta's side win their next two league games, including Crystal Palace at the Emirates on Wednesday, and Liverpool beat Leicester, Slot's team can win the title by beating Tottenham at Anfield next Sunday.
Asked about whether he's considered the possibility of winning the title at The King Power, Slot replied: "The honest answer is no.
"I'm not sure you believe me but that is the honest answer. My whole life I'm living in the moment, in the day, and I'm not looking backwards a lot and I'm not looking forwards a lot because it's the type of person that I am, that I am not constantly looking back at what I have achieved at former clubs.
"That is also so difficult in football, people constantly tell you, 'Try to enjoy it, try to enjoy the whole journey', but the only thing you are thinking about as a manager is, 'Oh, at the weekend there is a game coming up as well and we need to win that and we need to win the next and we need to win the next'.
"So, maybe that's one of the reasons: because I'm already so long in football that you get used to the fact of living day by day and trying to influence day by day."
