Santiago Giménez Thanks Teammates for Support After Scoring Goal
Santiago Giménez has made an immediate splash since joining AC Milan. The Mexican forward has already racked up two goals and an assist in just four matches. On Saturday, the former Cruz Azul player netted his second Serie A goal against Hellas Verona, securing three valuable points for the Rossoneri.
The Mexican international was named the Serie A Player of the Match after his goal. Despite limited scoring opportunities, Giménez made the most of his chances, finding the back of the net twice, although the first was ruled offside.
After the match, Giménez couldn't hide his joy over his first goal at San Siro. In an interview with ESPN, the Mexican highlighted the support he's received from the coach and his new teammates, which he's tried to reflect on the field.
“It's amazing when you experience it. The coach, my teammates, and the fans have pushed me a lot, they've given me so much strength, and that shows on the field and in the confidence they give me.”
Additionally, Zlatan Ibrahimovic praised Giménez, noting that he not only contributes offensively but also does a great job defensively. For the Swede, comparisons of Santiago with other forwards don't make sense, as he believes Giménez should carve out his own story, emphasizing that it's not easy to come to Italy and make an impact.
"I didn't say he reminds me of Ibra, but he is as strong as Ibra. Who does he remind me of? Santiago Giménez. You can't compare him to others. We have to help him do well; it's also our responsibility. It's not easy to come to Italy and perform immediately, especially at Milan, one of the biggest clubs in the world. We're here to help him, to enjoy the game, and to get results."
